Rock Removal on South Deer Creek Canyon to Continue This Week

I stopped by and talked to the flagman yesterday at the south end of Deer Creek Canyon. Rock removal will continue thru Friday, September 3rd and run from around 8am to 4:30pm each day. This means if you are driving to the Ranch from the south side, you may encounter a delay of about 30 minutes.

Of course, if you encounter the detour and decide to double back on C-470, to US-285 South, then take the N. Turkey Creek Road exit, then left towards S. Turkey Creek, right on S. Turkey Creek, the left on Deer Creek Canyon Road, this will take you about 15 minutes longer.

So, best to just avoid the Wadsworth or Kipling routes, and go straight to US-285, which will only add about 8 minutes to drive time if you just stay on C-470. Click on the picture/map at right to see it larger.

Monday, August 30 Deer Creek Canyon Traffic Problems

On Monday, August 30th, you can expect up to a 30 minute delay on South Deer Creek Canyon Road. This will mostly affect traffic coming from the Wadsworth/Kipling/Ken Caryl area (south end) and not from the US-285 approach. Please plan accordingly.

MAR Main Web Site Down

The Mountain Air Ranch web site, http://www.trynude.com, was hacked today and had to be taken down for repairs. The hacker that changed the site put in some Windows viruses that caused at least one viewer some problems. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Another Update on Access to the Ranch on August 29th

We have now been informed by the Deer Creek Challenge organizers that they will be shutting down access to Deer Creek Canyon Road to all (non-bike) vehicles. Traffic will be limited to "Local Access Only". We are waiting to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department to return a call asking for clarification as to whether they will stop access to Mountain Air Ranch.

At this time, visitors to the Ranch on Sunday August 29th should plan on only approaching Mountain Air Ranch from the north end of Deer Creek Canyon Road (via Highway 285). You should know the following address to give to Sheriff Deputies (assuming they will even let you by):
Mountain Air Ranch
9006 South Mica Mine Gulch Road
Littleton, Colorado 80127

If you are planning on coming to the Ranch on Sunday, August 29th, please plan accordingly. It is recommended that you consider staying Saturday night. At this time, all rooms at the Ranch are reserved for Saturday night, and only tent and RV space is available.

We will post more info if or when it becomes available.

Upcoming Dangerous Traffic Situation on Deer Creek Canyon

On Sunday August 29, 2010, the Deer Creek Challenge Bicycle Ride will be running 6 tracks up and down Deer Creek Canyon. You should expect traffic to be difficult and dangerous. Jefferson County has declared this road dangerous and bicyclists can expect minimal to no shoulder space and hundreds of cars and trucks using the road on that day. During the last two months, some minimal shoulder space has been added to the road, but above Philipsburg there is still ABSOLUTELY NO SHOULDER on this winding road.

Visitors to Mountain Air Ranch should approach from the north on Hiway 285, and avoid the traffic jam on the south end, with the bicycle event staging from the Denver Botanic Gardens at Chatfield. Reports are that the Jefferson County Sheriff's office will limit traffic during the event.

Probably the best way to avoid the traffic problems is to spend Saturday night at Mountain Air Ranch. There are four rooms in the Lodge, the Ponderosa cabin, and the Scrub Oak cabin (very small), or you can pitch at tent in the tent meadow for $15 or park you trailer or RV in the RV Meadow for $22. Other rates are outlined here.

196 People in the Pool for AANR Skinny Dip Record

On Saturday, July 10th, Mountain Air Ranch was able to photograph 196 people ALL in the pool at exactly 1pm for their contribution to The AANR World Record Skinny-Dip. It was a little crowded in the shallow end, and the pool level rose noticeably. Some reported that 196 bodies made the water warmer.

The photo will be submitted to the AANR for verification with the Guinness World Record folks.

Our local Fire Marshall was our independent observer for the event.

A copy of the 8x10 photo is for sale to members for $12.

Upcoming Weekend Events

This weekend starts today with a Movie Night at the Community Kitchen. Activities will start just before sunset. Free popcorn and candy will also be provided. Andy is providing the audio-visual setup, and Tim/Karen are providing the movie and short subjects.

Tomorrow (Saturday) is the 2010 The AANR World Record Skinny-Dip attempt. Last year, Mountain Air Ranch had 201 people in the pool at 1pm for the photo shoot. Hopefully, we can beat that number this year. The 3-visit rule has been waived for Saturday for non-members, so if you want to come and aren't a member, please contact the office at (303)697-4083 for details on daily rates.

Saturday will also be Kids Day, sponsored by Doug and Charlie, from noon to 2pm, followed by the Guy Howdy Balloon Magic Show from 3:30 to 4:30pm.

At 5pm Saturday will be a pool party with a live band, the Crusin' Cats, performing. That party will run until around 8pm (it usually runs later, but the band will stop around 8pm).

Sunday we celebrate the 75th anniversary of Mountain Air Ranch's existence. There will cake and ice cream, and a members-only photo shoot to put on the Clubhouse wall. There will be poolside entertainment from 1:30pm to 4:00pm.
